Nirpathuve Nadapathuve ( English Meaning)

Artist(s): Harish Raghavendra

Lyricist: Mahakavi Subramaniya Bharathiyaar
Album: Bharathi

Nirpathuve Nadapathuve Parapathuve
Neengalellam Soppanam Thaano
Pala Thotra Mayakangalo

All things that are standing, walking, flying
Are these just my dreams or mere illusions?

Karpadhuve Ketpadhuve Karudhuvadhe
Neengalellam Arpa Maayaygalo
Ummul Aalndha Porul Illaiyo

Things that I learn, hear, imagine
are these also just illusions
Isn’t there an deeper meaning to it?

Vaanagame Ilaveyile Maracharive

Neengalellam Kaanalin Neero

Verum Kaatchi Pizhai Thaano

The rays of light that fall on the trees
are these a mere also a mere illusion?

Ponathellam Kanavinaipol
Puthainthazhinthe Ponathanaal

Naanum Oor Kanavo
Intha Gnalamum Poi Thaano
All that have gone seems like a dream
Am I also just a dream
Isn’t this whole universe a false thing?
Kaalam Endre Oru Ninaivum
Kaatchi Endre Pala Ninaivum

Kolamum Poigalo

Angu Gungalum Poigalo

Time that is perceived as a thought
images that appear to our multiple thoughts
Are these lies too?

Kaanpadhellam Maraiyum Endraal

Maraindhadhellam Kaanbamandro

Naanum Oor Kanavo

Intha Gnalamum Poi Thaano

If whatever we see will disappear eventually
If we can see the ones disappeared
Am I also not a dream
Isn’t this whole universe a false thing?

All things that are standing, walking, flying
Are these just my dreams or mere illusions?

Things that I learn, hear, imagine
are these also just illusions
Isn’t there an deeper meaning to it?

The rays of light that fall on the trees
are these a mere also a mere illusion?

All that have gone seems like a dream
Am I also just a dream
Isn’t this whole universe a false thing?

Time that is perceived as a thought
images that appear to our multiple thoughts
Are these lies too?

If whatever we see will disappear eventually
If we can see the ones disappeared
Am I also not a dream
Isn’t this whole universe a false thing?

These form the crux of Sri Rudhra, a powerful set of hymns about Lord Siva, present in the Yajur vedha. There is a famous theory about Sri Rudhra given by the paramaacharya of kanchi, Sri Chandrasekarend ra Saraswathi Sankaracharya swami. Generally Vedhas are referred as 3 (trayee Veda). The Yajur Veda is in the middle. If we check what’s found in the middle of Yajur Veda, it’s the Rudhra hymns. They are present in the fourth chapter of the total seven chapters. If we further ponder in to what’s found in the middle of Rudhra, it’s the Name of lord Siva – famously called Siva Panchakshari (the 5 letters – Om nama Sivaya – in Sanskrit – given in the last line of the above present manthras). Hence, the hymns are very pious and should be treated with respect.
